Dr Wijns William

In this summer newsletter you will find an update on the activities of our Association.
Notably, there is information on EuroPCR and the European Society of Cardiology meeting in Munich.

We have just come back from Barcelona, where the EuroPCR course focused on 'Together we achieve more ' in the field of cardiovascular interventions.

Now we look ahead to Munich, where we will have the Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Cardiology. The EAPCI will play a visible role in this programme and the Hotline Session II will be of particular interest for interventional cardiologists: The SYNTAX (Synergy between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Cardiac Surgery) Trial will be presented. The results will certainly dominate the discussion around the optimal revascularisation for patients with left main stem and multivessel disease. In the same session we will also hear about CARDIA, a randomised trial of bypass surgery vs. angioplasty in diabetic patients.

On the same day, just hours later we would like you to join us at the EAPCI General Assembly (Monday 1 September at 15:30 in Room 11, Zone C). A lot of work has been done in the last year.

  • The European Accreditation for Interventional Cardiology has moved forward and is close to being rolled out in some selected countries.
  • Many new initiatives have been proposed and started. A Russian fellowship and an Acute Coronary Artery Task Force are only two examples of activities on which we will report, but for which we also seek support and advice.

Let me repeat my invitation to the General Assembly in Munich. Please join the group, join the discussion, make your voice heard and participate in the activities of the European Interventional Community: EAPCI.
