Dear Members,
EAPCI continues its growth and in this first newsletter edition of the year, you will find information about our planned activities and ongoing projects for 2008.
Our meeting,
EuroPCR2008, is just around the corner and the programme is almost finalised. The educational content of the course has been extended further. I would like to highlight the teaching sessions coordinated by Professor Jean Marco, a unique opportunity for young colleagues and fellows to learn from the best. These sessions give an insight into the practical issues of percutaneous techniques, that will be hard to find in books! Professor Jean Marco explains the background of his initiative and the objectives of the Education Committee of EAPCI in
our interview.
EuroIntervention has launched a new issue and the battle to be listed in PubMed continues. Without a doubt we will eventually succeed and find this major interventional journal where it belongs.
EuroIntervention hosts a session at EuroPCR, featuring selected publications.
EAPCI is expected to play a major role at this years'
ESC congress in Munich. Although Imaging is the main theme, we will find a large number of dedicated interventional sessions, which will make the trip to Bavaria worthwhile!
And of course there is the long awaited SYNTAX trial, which will hopefully be presented as part of the Hot Line sessions programme in Munich. The results of this trial will certainly have an impact on our coronary arteries’ work!
2008 will be an important turn for EAPCI. The association takes its strength from the membership and active participation from its members. Many thanks to those of you who already contribute to our programmes and a word of encouragement to all the others! We would like to hear your views, to see you at the general assembly and, ultimately, to work together towards the accomplishment of our mission which is "To reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe through percutaneous cardiovascular interventions".
Professor William Wijns
EAPCI President
