Prof Antoine Lafont

What are the objectives and initiatives planned by your Committee during its term?
What is the main goal of the EAPCI Training & Research Fellowship programme?

The main objective of our committee is to identify and support the next generation of interventional cardiologists throughout Europe via a Training & Research Fellowship programme. This includes awards and grants of one year to perform a clinical or research training in a centre of excellence in Europe.

This is made possible thanks of the generosity of major companies involved in the field of interventional cardiology.

The second objective is to build long term partnership with future leaders committed to clinical excellence and science via EAPCI in Europe. This means that beyond a year of training, their skills will be useful for building the future.

If you could, would you personally apply for the EAPCI grant?

If I could, I would certainly apply for the EAPCI grant for doing a sabbatical in Europe, but I am too old unfortunately! This represents a tradition which offers a unique partnership between a young bright colleague and a great team to create lifetime relationships within Europe. I very much encourage applicants to make the most of this offer!

Do you have a specific message you would like to address to our audience ?

This is a unique chance that our Association gives, and this represents a major effort because the EAPCI Board considers it as a priority. National working groups are often confronted to this challenge, and they are welcome to select their brightest candidates, and to propose initiatives.

What other major involvements do you have outside the EAPCI Fellowship Committee?

I have been kindly designated as the Past Chairman of the EAPCI as former chairman of the Working Group on Interventional Cardiology, which means that I belong to the executive board of the EAPCI. In other words, I am closely working with the EAPCI President and I continue to actively support our very young Association which has no equivalent in the world, with its Journal EuroIntervention, and its well known annual meeting EuroPCR. I am Co-Editor of EuroIntervention, collaborating closely with the Editor-in-Chief, and I participate in the organisation of EuroPCR (Innovating emerging technologies and call for cases).
