Objectives and initiatives planned by your committee during its term
The main objective of the International Affairs and National Socities Committee is to establish, to facilitate and to optimize the communication between EAPCI and all the national interventional cardiology working groups. This implies building a close relationship and collaboration between EAPCI and the National Working groups by a direct and permanent contact.
The second objective is to encourage the involvement of the national working groups at the EuroPCR Congress, the Annual meeting of EAPCI.
How do you see the involvement of the national working group members?
Their role is:
- To express their expectations and propositions to EAPCI;
- To share some ideas, topics of work, studies, registries (Euro Heart Survey, scientific initiatives, education) through EAPCI;
- To promote and facilitate the diffusion of ESC guidelines;
- To actively participate in the EuroPCR meeting.
Interventional Cardiology was born in Europe: which countries are the actual European leaders ?
The total amount of PCI's performed in Europe each year nearly equals the number of PCI's performed in the U.S.
The PCI frequency per million of inhabitants varies according to the countries.
Germany is the current leader in Europe as far as the volume is concerned.
The variation of the PCI total amount per country depends on historical and economic reasons, in particular with regards reimbursement issues. Last but not least, one can notice that even in the smaller countries, the PCI frequency is quickly increasing.
Do you have a specific message you would like to address to the audience?
EAPCI welcomes all professionals whose main activity is percutaneous cardiovascular interventions who wants to get involved in a common goal: to work together in clinical research, scientific activities, and education, in order to improve the results of interventional procedures and the quality of patients' care.
