The Crossroads Institute

of Abbot Vascular grew out of the original training centre established by Guidant in 2000.

  • Mission:
    The training curriculum and spirit of the Institute is built around a desire to “provide neutral, objective courses to the cardiology community.
  • Courses:
    80 educational courses for both coronary and peripheral “that address what healthcare professionals want and need to learn” to ultimately improve patient care.
    The Institute works through a variety of proven techniques leading to a high-quality and “unbiased training, peer-to-peer interaction, and state-of-the-art technology in a stimulating international environment.” The goal is for “professionals to return to their practice” with a take home message that leaves them “equipped with new techniques, practical skills, experience and clinical insights.”

ACADEMIA

supports continuing medical education and training at the Medtronic Therapy and Procedure Training centres.

  • Mission:
    To create and deliver state-of-the-art programmes focused on Cardiac & Vascular therapies that are directly applicable in daily practice.
  • Courses:
    Unique use of integrated real cases throughout the whole course, offering state-of-the-art training designed by physicians for physicians with coaching techniques.
    Simulation and Hands on programmes aiming to optimize patient outcome and improve performance in operations.
    Courses based upon: interactivity and procedural planning.
  • Faculty:
    The independent Academia steering committee includes : Eric Eeckhout of CHUV Lausanne (EBAC course Director), Raoul Bonan, Bernard de Bruyne, Bernard Chevalier, Mark Mason and Philip Urban.
  • Location:
    The EBAC accredited courses can be delivered at the Main Training Center centre in Tolochenaz, Switzerland, as well as in selected Academia European Centers such as Barcelona, Frankfurt, London, Southampton, Toulouse etc.

The Institute for Therapy Advancement

is an ongoing initiative of Boston Scientific and comes out of the historic pioneering work of the former Guidant Centre in Brussels.

  • Mission:
    The training curriculum and spirit of the Institute is built around a desire to “provide neutral, objective courses to the cardiology community.”
  • Courses:
    Focusing on daily practice, the Institute offers skills training along with the possibility of “sharing experience with peers, as well as key opinion leaders.” Work at the institute is composed of live transmissions, a fully operational Cathlab and a virtual reality integrated learning system.
    The institute also sponsors proctor and fellows' programmes.
  • Faculty:
    Carlo Di Mario in the UK and Faiez Zannad in France.
  • Location:
    No fixed location. Training centres in Tokyo, St. Paul and now in Paris.

The Cordis Cardiac and Vascular Institute (CCVI)

In partnership with leading European centres, and utilising the excellent facilities of the European Surgical Institute in Hamburg, Germany, the Cordis Cardiac and Vascular Institute (CCVI) provides physicians with an educational program that is both sustainable and tailored to meet their needs.

  • Mission:
    to establish a world-class global cardiac and vascular institute that will provide physicians and other health care professionals with educational and clinical resources designed to aid the development of their academic knowledge and procedural skills.
  • Courses:
    The CCVI Professional Education Program for cardiology consists of a series of educational activities categorised as follows:
    1. Interactive Medical Education Seminars
    2. Clinical Practice Workshops
    3. Professional communication skills training
    Where and when appropriate, CCVI will submit its programs to the European Board of Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC) for Continuing Medical Education accreditation.
  • Faculty:
    2007 core faculty composed of William Wijns and Martin Rothman on the advisory board.
  • Location:
    European Surgical Institute, Hamburg, Germany and selected European centres.
