Dear EAE members,
We are in the most privileged position to announce that at the closure of the 2008 membership, we have more than 1400 registered members!
Membership: we beat a record!
When I started my presidency in December 2006, our membership counted 629 members. This increase represents 120% over two years!
However, I am very conscious that there are still many echocardiographers in our respective countries that are not yet members of our association. Only an average of 10% of each country’s national echo society/working group are EAE members and I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to invite your colleagues to become new members of our association for the year 2009.
I would also like to thank you for your continued support as an EAE member and hope that you will continue to participate actively in the life of the association in the year to come.
Membership 2009: registration is now open!
Additional and new exclusive benefits will be offered to you, including 2 extra issues per year of the
European Journal of Echocardiography (EJE), the access to restricted educational content and the creation of a membership directory.
Dont' wait,
renew your membership today!
Webcast recordings: for EAE members only!
Selected webcasts recorded from EUROECHO 2007 are now available and is restricted to EAE members only.
This is yet another privilege for being an EAE member with many more benefits to come.
Watch this space!
EUROECHO 2008 (10-13 December, Lyon - FR)
With the ESC congress behind us, we are now concentrating fully on the
EUROECHO Congress, what is expected to be the largest scientific meeting on echocardiology in the world!
A record
number of abstracts were submitted again demonstrating the tremendous amount of on-going clinical research on echocardiology.
With the development of sub-specialisation on echocardiography, the accreditation process and the multiple sub-sub-specialties in echocardiography, such as contrast, deformation imaging, 3-Dimensional etc, echocardiography might have earned its name of an –ology!
This clearly separates echocardiography from all other imaging modalities grouped together, while it is and will remain by far the most widely used cardiac imaging technique.
Don't miss the Imaging campus, our new activity this year in Lyon
Board elections:
As you are aware, this year is election year and the new
EAE Board (2008 -2010) will start its term in December immediately after the Opening Ceremony at
EUROECHO 2008.
The Nominating Committee, Chaired by Assoc. Prof. A.G. Fraser, has worked very hard to finalise the candidates who will be put up for elections. Access the
list of selected candiates.
We received strong candidates for all the positions and the selection process was not an easy one and take this opportunity to thank all the candidates who presented themselves.
Voting will take place electronically from 14 October to 14 November and the results will be announced during the Opening Ceremony in Lyon.
As a member, you are eligible to vote and we strongly encourage you to do so. Use your vote to support the candidates who you believe will enable our Association to move forward and become stronger.
Hall of Fame:
This project that started last year, is now progressing well with further recordings.
Access the interview of Dr. Luigi Badano and Prof. Alessandro Distante on the EAE website.
Research Grants 2009:
Following the tremendous success of last year’s research grant, this year the EAE is offering two
research grants of 25K each for young researchers who wish to carry out his/her research in another centre.
Let me highlight that if we are able to provide those grants, it is simply because of our increased membership, which allows us to increase the budget for research grants.
Please note that the applications are now closed. Thank you to all candidates who have applied. The EAE will get back to each applicant in November to announce the grant winners.
Lab accreditation:
After an initial pilot study, we are now entering the second phase of this very important program by involving 6 more countries to pilot the study: France, Germany, Spain, Romania, Poland and Denmark. We are grateful for their commitment to making Laboratory Accreditation a success.
Official launch: Spring 2009
EJE Impact Factor:
After eight years of existence, the
European Journal of Echocardiography (EJE) shall have in 2009 an Impact Factor for the first time, which will be very similar to our unique competitive Journal: the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE).
From next year, EJE will increase by two the number of issues, offering you
8 issues a year.
Submissions are increasing with ever improving quality and we are adapting our journal to allow for this!
Recommendation documents:
The EAE has published two important
recommendation papers during this year: one on stress echocardiography, and the other on “Recommendations for standardization of performance, digital storage and reporting of echocardiography studies”. These are important documents for raising standards of echocardiography in Europe.
Both documents have been published following extensive consultation with representatives from countries with existing national recommendation documents such as the
British Society of Echocardiography,
ANMCO and the
Spanish Society of Echocardiography.
I wish you a very productive year ahead and looking forward to see you in Lyon in December.
Petros Nihoyannopoulos,
EAE President
