Theoretical: examination (Computer-based)
The examination is held twice a year in:
- September: during the ESC Congress
- December: during the EUROECHO & other Imaging Modalities Congress
The examination is a knowledge-based assessment, using Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ, single best answer out of 5 possible choices) divided into two sections:
The examination is in English, a glossary is provided.
Exam questions example 
The duration of the written examination is 5 hours which includes a 20 minute break.
However, this schedule can be subject to on-site modification.
After each examination, the EAE Certification Committee for TTE analyses the statistical performance of the individual questions and the average level of scores. Only after this process passing scores for each section are decided.
On average, the cut-off scores for passing are as follows:

Before the examination:
- Candidates are required to come to the Certification registration desk at least 30 minutes before the start of the exam.
- Candidates are requested to bring and present an ID document with a photo to confirm his/her identity.
- Candidates must hand over their 'Supervisor Enrolment and Statement of Supervisor Form'
- Candidates are kindly asked to bring their calculator (the use of calculator in mobile phone is forbidden).
- A final information will be sent at least 4 days before the exam giving your ID and password.
During the examination
- There will be a 20 minute break between each session.
- If candidates leave the room before the end of the exam, they will have to sign out and will not be permitted to re-enter the room, nor access their computer.
- Once the examination is completed, candidates are allowed to leave the examination room.
- Once finished, candidates are required to sign out.
Results of the written examinations are sent via email within two months.
