Cardiovascular Disease Prevention - Risk Assessment and Management

 The Section on Sports Cardiology has decided to prioritise the following topics and studies:

  • SMILE:
    Screening of a large sample of young athletes in Europe by ECG. The purpose is establish a common database. Future scientific work is being defined and there is a call for more centers to participate.
  • Arena safety
    Ten countries included until now. Almost 100 complete questionnaires, showing that almost 20% of the arena’s don’t have AED.
  • Progress publication of guidelines in EJCPR
    In 2008 there will be a EHJ supplement Sportscardiology, in which preparticipation screening, recommendations already published in EJCPR will be published.
  • Resuscitation in athletes
    With the aid of IOC the project will start soon in Monaco.
  • Education for non-EU countries

  • Ageing Athletes
