Mission

To promote the essential knowledge of population prevention science among cardiologists, other clinicians, health care professionals and scientists, to stress their role in the community context and to improve their understanding of the importance of the epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Objectives

  • To acknowledge and promote the role of epidemiologic research on the etiology and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, including the study of risk factors, their time trends and geographical distributions, with the aim of developing optimal strategies to tackle the high burden of cardiovascular diseases in Europe.
  • To underline the need for representative up-to-date population data, surveys and registries,  and to stimulate the distribution of scientific evidence-based information among clinicians and other health care professionals allowing them to plan and implement appropriate preventive actions in daily practice.
  • To support policy makers, governmental and non-governmental organisations to take responsibility for creating a societal context that permits accessible, affordable and sustainable preventive measures at the population level, with particular attention to lifestyle related risk factors, including smoking, unhealthy diet, alcohol, physical inactivity, and obesity.
