The society has been founded by Prof. Dr. Fritz Kaindl.
The current board of the society consists of the people mentioned above as well as Prof. Dr Franz Weidinger (speaker of the working groups), Prim. Dr Hans-Joachim Nesser (past president 2), Prof. Dr Gerald Maurer, Prof. Dr Otmar Pachinger (heads of cardiology departments of the universities in Vienna, Graz and Innsbruck), and Doz. Dr Andrea Podczeck-Schweighofer (protocol secretary).
The activities of the society are driven by the 18 Working Groups (atherosclerosis, thrombosis and vascular biology; congenital heart disease; cerebrovascular disease; endothelial function and atherosclerosis; epidemiology and prevention; experimental cardiology; heart failure; interventional cardiology; cardiologic critical care and emergency medicine; cardiologic MR and CT; psychosomatic cardiology; rehabilitation and secondary prevention; cardiologic assistents and nurses; cardiopulmonary medicine; non-invasive electrophysiology; nuclear cardiology; rhythmology).
