The ESC launches a new version of HeartScore® in Turkey

Press release

Topics:
Date: 21 Oct 2009
The most recent version of HeartScore®, the interactive tool designed by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), to manage the risk of heart attack and stroke, is being launched in Turkey tomorrow (23 October 2009).

HeartScore® The launch will take place at the 25th National Cardiology Congress held by the Turkish Society of Cardiology in Istanbul 22-25 October 2009.  The aim of HeartScore is to help health professionals predict their patients’ risk of heart attack or stroke over a 10-year period, and to manage treatment in accordance with European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Prevention in clinical practice. A revised version of HeartScore® released in November 2008 included relative risk for younger patients, in addition to patient data history and progress monitoring. Three formats have been developed to cater for different users’ needs: a Web-Based version in 13 languages where patient data history is logged, a PC version for download and an online Quick Calculator.

In addition to two European High/Low risk versions, 13 country-specific and translated versions of HeartScore have been developed in close collaboration with the National Coordinators for CVD Prevention and the National Cardiac Societies. HeartScore Sweden was the first country-specific version in local language launched in 2005, followed by versions in Germany, Greece, Poland, Spain, Cyprus, Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Turkey. Translated versions now exist in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Romania and Croatia.

A roll-out plan of additional national versions has been defined for 2009-2010 within the framework of the EuroHeart Programme of the European Commission and according to countries specific requests. Further updates will be produced as knowledge evolves (new cohort studies, risk factors, end points).

HeartScore® has over 14,000 registered users. It is free for health professionals and can be accessed at http://www.heartscore.org/
