Welcome to the European Society of Cardiology. Our mission: to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe

New CEO Isabel Bardinet will promote ESC's leadership

ESC Press Release

Date: 30 Sep 2009
On October 1st, Isabel Bardinet will take up her appointment as the new CEO at the European Society of Cardiology. The former Congress Director of the ESC since 2005, Mrs Bardinet is particularly keen to further develop the leadership of the ESC within the medical community.

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) represents 59,000 cardiology professionals across Europe and the Mediterranean, and comprises 5 Associations, 5 Councils, 19 Working Groups and 52 National Cardiac Societies. The ESC holds an annual Congress which is the largest medical meeting in Europe and edits and publishes seven of the world's leading journals on cardiology.

Mrs Bardinet has been involved with association and congress management since 1988. Highlights of her career include 12 years as a Director and General Manager at SOCFI (Société d’Organisation de Congrès Français et Internationaux), and three years as General Manager of COLLOQUIUM, following the merger of SOCFI and Convergences. Most recently at Le Palais Des Congrès De Paris, Mrs Bardinet was a General Delegate of the Leading Venues of Paris, in addition to her role as Executive Sales Director.

Mrs Bardinet is keen to enhance the important role of the national societies, associations, councils and working groups which work closely within the ESC.

She says: “The future of the ESC is closely linked to the input of professional associations in general and particularly to the energy of the professional community who work in the cardiovascular disease area.

“In both cases there is potential for future growth. In the first example this is due to a growing recognition of the advantages of belonging to a professional association which is an essential boost to an individual’s career.

“In the second example this is unfortunately due to a growth in cardiovascular disease which brings about a need for exchange of information and ideas.”

ESC President, Professor Roberto Ferrari has welcomed Mrs Bardinet into her new role, saying: “I as the ESC President, couldn't be happier to have the chance to work closely with Isabel and I am sure that this will be an extremely constructive experience.  With her open mind she has the ability to see things that are invisible, thus making her a true visionary.”
