The BRIGHT (Building Research Initiative Group – Chronic Illness Management and AdHerence in Transplantation) study is an international, multi-center study with following
aims:
- to assess the prevalence of non-adherence to the medical regimen (e.g. medication, following diet, smoking, alcohol use, exercise, sun protection)
in 45 heart transplant centers, in 13 countries and four continents
- to compare non-adherence among countries and continents
- to assess specific patient, provider, transplant team and healthcare system level factors associated with non-adherence.
Job description
The successful candidate will be an important member of the international BRIGHT study team. As a research assistant the successful candidate will be involved in the organization of the data collection and data management of this study under supervision of the BRIGHT principal investigator (Professor Dr. Sabina De Geest) and the BRIGHT project director (Dr. Lut Berben).
The successful candidate is expected to achieve his/her PhD within the time frame of 3 years. During this period, the candidate will be appointed as a research assistant in a 60% position. For his/her dissertation the successful candidate will have access to the BRIGHT study data. The candidate will determine the focus of his/her dissertation in collaboration with the BRIGHT study team.
The successful candidate will also participate in teaching activity on Bachelor – Master level and support faculty in academic management tasks.
He/she will be compensated in accordance with the official payment structure of the University of Basel for research assistants with a Master’s level education.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
-
Master degree in nursing science with outstanding grades/scholarship
-
experience in transplantation is advantageous, however, other candidates with a profound interest in the BRIGHT study research areas are also encouraged to apply
Skills required:
-
sound methodological and statistical skills
-
good knowledge of the usual office computer programs (e.g. Word, PowerPoint) as well as statistical analysis programs such as SPSS or SAS
-
ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international team
-
good oral and written English skills; willingness to learn German. Any other language proficiency is an asset.

ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
