Board Election Results 2008-2010

Date :

23 Jun 2008

Dear Members of the European Society of Cardiology,

I am happy to announce the results of the election of the ESC Board and Nominating Committee 2008-2010, as well as a representative for the Audit Committee 2008-2012.

This year for the first time the entire election process was conducted by postal vote, well before the beginning of the term. The advantages of such process are quite clear. It shortens the campaign, allows all constituent bodies to vote regardless of their presence at the congress, and – most importantly – eliminates the uncertainty of “last minute” vote, enabling those who are elected to adjust their calendars for the next two years and prepare for the new duties.

It is encouraging to see that nearly 90% of the voting delegates actually cast their votes. I want to thank everybody for their active participation.

Let me also take this opportunity to thank all candidates proposed by the constituent bodies. By agreeing to stand for the election they expressed their willingness to serve the Society. Those who were not elected should be encouraged to continue working for the ESC in different other capacities.

Last but not least, let me congratulate those who were elected. I wish them the best of luck and a great success in their new positions. I am absolutely sure that they will always remember that having been elected is not only a big honor, but also a great responsibility.

Michal Tendera, FESC
Past President of the ESC
Chair of the Nominating Committee
