1. Please explain why the ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines needed to be updated.
The Guidelines were updated to include new evidences in the diagnostic work-up and in the treatment strategy. In particular, five new drugs for PAH have been approved since the previous version of the guidelines (2004).
2. Why is this course needed?
The course is needed to implement the guidelines among expert centres and to present them to all stakeholders including pharma companies, European Medicines Agency (EMEA) and patients associations. A section dedicated to possible areas of improvement of the guidelines and to the gaps of evidence is also included
3. What would you recommend to implement the Guidelines?
To implement the guidelines it is important to organise events to present them and to test them on real clinical cases. The translation into different languages is also important. The current version includes tables with the approval of PAH drugs in different countries, allowing the practical application in different geographical areas.
4. How does this edition compare with previous ones?
More than 200 applicants have already registered for this event which appears to be the largest ever organised by the Working Group on Pulmonary Circulation of the ESC.
