EAPCI President's Editorial Newsletter May 2010

Carlo Di MarioDear Members,

I hope you have found the time to share your results of clinical or experimental research in interventional cardiology by submitting abstracts to EuroPCR.  Abstracts have been a recent addition to the EuroPCR programme, a logical consequence of the fact EuroPCR has become the annual congress of our Association so that its program must be done by the members for the members.  The first year has already seen the submission of  564 abstracts with 255 selected in sessions well attended and full of exciting original data. This year the submission, possibly sparked by its new location in the central Paris, has increased by  24% at  701, increasing the work burden of the 52 international experts who scored them and include this year the Scientific Programme Committee members of EAPCI. The Live Cases sessions have also become a great hit of the congress: sharing your most interesting and teachful cases and, God forbids, complications will help others to handle better the same challenging situation.

EuroPCR 2010 is just around the corner and I would like to invite you to attend the first EAPCI General Assembly of my 2 year Presidency, which will take place in the Main Arena after the most important session of the first day, the Late Breaking Trials presentations. Make sure to stay in the Main Arena on Tuesday 25 May from 17:35 - 18:35 to get updated on the activities of your Association! Thank you for your support and please spread the news among your colleagues.

You will learn about:

  • the plans to establish better contact with the National Interventional Societies
  • the initiatives to establish a European platform for interventional training
  • the plans to develop a program of clinically orientated clinical research
  • our contribution to the scientific program of the ESC and EuroPCR
  • the results of the survey on PCI and other percutaneous interventions in Europe in 2007 and 2008, an old initiative started in 1992 by a living legend of European interventional cardiology, Bernhard Meier from Bern. This initiative is now performed in cooperation with the EAPCI Databases and Registries Committee

Call for questions
In order to have as much question and answer time as possible, we kindly ask you to submit your questions in advance. Selected ones will be answered by the most appropriate person during the General Assembly. All other questions will be answered by email after the Course.

Thank you for your support and please spread the news among your colleagues. Remember, we also welcome non-members to participate at the Assembly.

Very best regards,

Carlo Di Mario,
EAPCI President 2009-2011
