Frequently Asked Questions about the ESC eLearning platform in Interventional Cardiology

Do I have to pay to register?

Yes. Access to EAPCI Learning Programme is reserved to EAPCI members and is subject to a yearly fee of 120€ (calendar year: January to December).

How long does this training programme last?

Although 24 months (maximum) are recommended to complete the training programme, this can be achieved in a shorter period of time.

Do I need to have a MyESC account to log in?

Yes. You should log on the ESC eLearning platform using your My ESC account details. If you do not have a My ESC account, you will be redirected to the appropriate page to create your account.

Will I get a diploma at the end of the training?

No. Pending that the relevant number of points have been obtained (120 in total), you will be awarded with a certificate of excellence in training in interventional cardiology.

What is the value of the certificate of excellence?

  • It has a unique value as this is the only certificate available as a proof of trainees’ completion of a thorough assessment of their theoretical and practical competences in one of the 6 sub-specialties by experts in that field.
  • This has no legal value nor does it give the authorisation to practice interventional cardiology which remains the responsibility of the countries.

Can I keep a record of my CME activity through the eLearning platform?

No. This is not the purpose of the current eLearning platform version (version 1).

Can I enrol in several sub-specialties learning programmes at the same time?

No. If you are interested in interventional cardiology, you will need to complete this learning programme before being able to enrol in one of the other 5 sub-specialties.

Is the platform available in national languages?

No. The current platform version is only available in English. Future versions may contain sections in national languages.

What are the advantages and benefits for national cardiac societies?

  • There is no intention to take their place or minimize their role in the training process.
  • The goal is simply to help different countries by providing a friendly platform with tools and services that may reduce the costs to National Cardiac Societies and may better harmonise training across Europe.
  • It will also help National Cardiac Societies to identify centres with difficulties in this process in order to solve the problems on time.

Once candidates are enrolled, what will be the role of the ESC / EAPCI?

ESC and EAPCI will provide support for an easy and an updated process of training and certainly not a control of National Cardiac Societies education programs.
