The mission of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is to reduce the burden of Cardiovascular Disease in Europe. Since 1999, the ESC has implemented an international clinical research programme, Euro Heart Survey/Registry (EHSR).
The aim of the new Euro Heart Survey/Registry programme is to provide a better understanding of medical practice based on observational data, collected with more robust methodological procedures.
The new programme will include:
- General surveys/registries to assess the management of diseases of major impact in terms of incidence. These surveys will provide epidemiological data and provide reports on the application of clinical practice guidelines recommendations.
- Sentinel Surveys to assess the impact of interventional procedures and imaging techniques.
- Special surveys to assess epidemiology and management of rarer conditions as arising critical issues in terms of public health (severity of the disease, stringent clinical needs, costs.

- Acknowledgement: Centres will be acknowledged in the main manuscript of the survey/registry and by means of an EHS Certificate.
- Authorship: Participants will receive their database and will be invited to co-author manuscripts (according to the EHS policy)
- Financial Assistance: Participating NSs of the ESC will receive some financial support (for the time being only for the HF pilot registry) to help them with the selection of centres and to support the activities of their National Coordinator.
