about the Council on Hypertension

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The ESC Council on Hypertension was officially created on 2 September 2014 at the ESC General Assembly in Barcelona. Developed from the ESC Working Group on Hypertension and the Heart, the Council aims to establish itself as the leader in hypertension within the ESC.
The focus will be, as previously, on the cardiovascular aspects of hypertension and in particular on research, teaching, the communication of knowledge, and education. The Council will increase its contribution to the main activities of the ESC and encourage the participation of young cardiologists with an interest in our domain by creating a specific group for the young community. We intend to reach out to both patient organisations and the scientific community, and will develop firm links with other societies in the field of hypertension to develop joint initiatives.
As members of the former Working Group on Hypertension and the Heart, we (the Council nucleus members) hope that you will follow us in this new journey towards a wider scope of influence and activity in our discipline. From today you will automatically become a member of the ESC Council on Hypertension unless you formally convey your wish not to become a member. As the first Chairperson of the Council I am proud to represent you within the ESC. Supported by a nucleus of respected and experienced professionals, I look forward to a challenging but exciting mandate and a new era for hypertension.
With my sincere best wishes,

Professor Antonio Coca
Chairman of the Council on Hypertension
