Election of the Nominating Committee



 Background

The Council on Hypertension will hold elections in spring 2016 for the following official Council positions:

  • Vice-Chairperson
  • Nominating Committee (3 persons)
  • 1 new Nucleus member

to be elected for the period September 2016 - September 2018.
To ensure that the elections follow a transparent process, the first Nominating Committee of the Council on Hypertension will be set up for a limited period (January 2016 - July 2016). It will consider the applications for the above mentioned positions and provide a slate of candidates for each position.

Role of the first Nominating Committee

The responsibilities:

  • To ensure the good running of the election process in spring 2016 (definition of eligibility criteria, number of candidates, gender and geographical representation).
  • To ensure a transparent nominating process for vacant positions
  • To evaluate and present candidates for election
  • To ensure a balance of candidates according to criteria defined for each position.


The first Nominating Committee will define the required competencies for the positions to be elected. A call for candidates will be sent to the entire Membership of the Council for one Vice-Chairperson, 1 Nucleus member, and for 3 members to compose the next Nominating Committee (mandate September 2016 – September 2018). The first Nominating Committee will check the eligibility of the candidates and propose a list of candidates for each position to be elected.
The first Nominating Committee will be led by the current Past-Chair of the Council on Hypertension, Professor Renata Cifkova.

Timelines

  • 23 November 2015: deadline to receive candidates for the first Nominating Committee composed of 3 persons from the membership of the Council on Hypertension
  • January 2016: notification to the successful candidates of their appointment as members of the first Nominating Committee
  • February and March 2016: definition of the criteria for eligibility for positions to be elected (one Vice-Chair, 1 Nucleus member, and a Nominating Committee composed of 3 members)
  • April 2016: call sent to the membership of the Council on Hypertension for candidates for these positions
  • May 2016: the Nominating Committee checks the eligibility of the candidates and proposes a list of candidates for each position to the Nucleus
  • Early June 2016: voting open for 10 days in early June
  • End of June 2016: results of voting announced
  • July 2016: the first Nominating Committee is dissolved

What you must know before applying for a position as member of the first Nominating Committee

  • The members of the Nominating Committee are not eligible for election for the next 4 years
  • This first Nominating Committee will be dissolved after the elections in spring 2016
  • Only members of the Council on Hypertension can apply

If you would like to be a member of this first Nominating Committee we invite to you send a one-page curriculum vitae to councilhypertension@escardio.org clearly indicating:

  • your suitability for the role
  • any previous experience with positions within ESC or another professional society in the field of hypertension or a related area
  • that you are aware that if elected to the position of member of the first Nominating Committee, you will be ineligible for positions in the ESC Council on Hypertension for the next 4 years (2016-2020).
