The Young Investigators Award was my first international research award. It was the end product of three years of hard work in the field of Sports Cardiology and the proof that you should always strive for the unreachable. Even though I dared to dream of winning the award, I never thought that dream would materialise. I can think of a million reasons why a young researcher would shy away from putting himself forward for such an award, no less the intense anxiety of being judged by a panel of experts. At the same time however, it is difficult to express the immense feeling of elation when your name is announced as the winner of such a prestigious award and the sense of achievement generated by the recognition you receive by your colleagues and peers. The Young Investigators Award has strengthened my desire to further pursue a career in research in Sports Cardiology and I have no doubt that it will open up new professional opportunities for me in the near future.

It gave me the opportunity to compete with highly professional scientists who gave excellent presentations followed by profound discussions. It was a great pleasure to interact with the audience and the chairmen on from such a "short distance". I think these sessions are an excellent way to recieve recognition for new research at meetings like EuroPrevent. I´m looking forward to coming back!"
