Structure and organization of the EURObservational Research programme

Structure and Organization

Structure and organization of the EURObservational Research programme are designed to achieve the above mentioned objectives. The main features are: 

  • Use of appropriate methodological procedures 
  • Network of volunteer centres appointed by ESC constituent bodies
  • Use on-line electronic Case Report Form (CRF) allowing user friendly web based data entry
  • Full involvement of the ESC National Societies (NS) and relevant ESC Constituent Bodies

 Oversight Committee

Components: ESC President, President-elect, Past-President, three experts and representatives of the ESC Associations.
Responsibility: Programme oversight, relationship with Constituent Bodies and Survey/Registry (R/S) Chairpersons, liaison with the ESC Board

Oversight Committee's duration is four years (two terms of the Board). The Past Chairman of this committee is also part of it, so as to ensure continuity. The Oversight Committee proposes a candidate for the future Chairman position to the President and the Board. The ESC President cannot be Chairman of a registry whereas the Past President can, particularly if the subject does not have a specific area of reference such as an Association or a Working Group (WG).

Executive Committee

Components: Chairperson of the Registry & 3 experts selected by ESC Associations or WGs in liaison with the Oversight Committee (one member included in pilot S/R)
Responsibility: Conduct of the S/R (from protocol to publications) & reporting to the Oversight Committee.

ECs are composed of four members, one of whom being the chairman, appointed by the Association/WG in agreement with the Oversight Committee. Duration of the member's mandate is four years with the turnover of two members every two years whereas duration of the chairman’s mandate is two years. 

Oversight and Executive Committees should meet at least twice a year to carry out monitoring of the studies. The Oversight Committee should meet once a year together with all the Chairmen of all the registries and surveys.

Steering Committee

Components: Chairperson of the R/S, and one delegate per participating country selected by the NSs
Responsibility: provide input to the protocol & CRF, responsible for the performance of national centres, participation in the publication plan.
