EC Work Plan 2010: Funding schemes being made available
The European Commission has published a "Work Plan for 2010" for the implementation of the second programme of Community action in the field of health running from 2008 through to 2013.

The annual "Work Plan" sets out the priorities, actions to be undertaken and allocation of resources for 2010.
On this basis, calls for proposals are published, detailing the different types of funding schemes available and the procedures to follow.

WHAT DOES THIS WORK PLAN ENTAIL?
Priority areas for 2010 are:
Improving the health of European citizens
Reducing health inequalities
in and between EU Member States and regions, including:
Promotion of healthier ways of life and reduce major diseases and injuries by tackling health determinants (3.3.2 p.19)
Addiction prevention [tobacco, alcohol..] (3.3.2.6 p.22)
Prevention of major and chronic diseases and rare diseases (CVD - 3.3.2.7 p.24): "Developing European approaches and guidelines to identify strategic good practice approaches across society to address non-communicable diseases, in particular diseases of the heart and circulatory system, with a focus on inequalities and social conditions, linking to a broader strategic approach to address non-communicable diseases. This should include reporting on and analysing of the current situation with regard to cardiovascular and circulatory diseases in the EU. The aim is to use the results for developing Community initiatives on CV health, building on the initiatives already financed by the Community."
Building capacity for development and implementation of effective public health policies
WHO CAN APPLY?
Participation in the Health Programme is open to a wide range of organisations, including:
Research institutes and universities
Public administrations
NGOs
HOW TO APPLY?
All projects must receive financing from another source in addition to the Commission
No profits may be generated by the grant
All expenditure from the project must be incurred after the agreement is signed
Only one grant can be given for an action by a project partner each year
